How to suggest an eBook

Want to suggest an eBook for the library’s collection?  Here’s how:

  • go to http://www.openathens.net and login with your OpenAthens account
  • select Dawson Books or Ebook Library (EBL) from the list of resources
  • search the eBooks on both platforms
  • when you have found an eBook that you think would be useful to you and other UHSM staff or students follow the process (depending on the platform you are on) to suggest a title for purchase
  • the library team will receive your suggestion automatically
  • your suggestion will be either approved or declined but either way we will contact you and let you know
  • once approved you will be contacted and will be able to access the eBook within 24 hours

If you experience any difficulties with the above, contact the library directly to make your eBook suggestion at academylibrary@manchester.ac.uk.

4,000 e-books now available

4,000 e-books have been added to the Academy Library catalogue. To access the catalogue, click here.

The e-books are provided by Springer who are giving all NHS employees free full-text access until October 2014. The collection is available in the Trust without the need to login. Outside the Trust, just click on sign in, select NHS as the institution and then enter your Athens userame and password.

Access to 40,000 + e-books

As part of the project, Springer are also giving all NHS employees free full-text access to over 40,000 e-books until October 2014.
To access the collection:
1.  Click here and choose *Sign up/Log in* from the menu bar at the top right of the page

2. Choose Institutional/Athens login*


3. From the dropdown list under *Log in via Athens* choose *NHS*  then *Proceed to Athens*.

Oxford Handbooks Online

You can access a large selection of Oxford Handbooks and Specialty Handbooks from the library website via your NHS England Athens log in. Go to

http://www.academylibrary.org.uk/WinCHILL/ItemSearchEBook.asp to access the collection, or click on the Oxfordonline link from your My Athens page. You will need to choose NHS England as your institution, and then log on with your Athens as normal.

Accessing Science Direct and Wiley journals from the Academy library

To access Science Direct journals from our catalogue choose the NHS England Login link at the top right hand side of the page.
If you don’t see the NHS England link then click the Athens/Other Institution login link, choose OpenAthens Federation (Eduserve)
from the drop down menu and click on the NHS England link from the list.
 
For Wiley journals click on Institutional login on the top right hand corner. In the Institution Name field type in Wythenshawe Hospital or South Manchester and click the selection from the drop down menu. This will then direct you to the Athens login page where you will login as normal. If you have any questions please ask a member of staff.

 

Oxford Specialist Handbooks ebooks added to library catalogue

We are pleased to announce that we have added over sixty Oxford Specialist Handbooks to our ebook collection.  Titles include Addiction Medicine, Fetal Cardiology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Surgical Oncology and many more. Simply go to the UHSM Academy Library ebooks collection from our webpage.  You will need your Athens login to access the collection. Speak to a member of staff for more information.
