Literature searching service available from the Academy Library

Do you need a literature search?
The Academy Library will do your literature search for you within 48 hours of receipt. The service is free and is available to all clinical and non-clinical staff at UHSM.
You can request a search using the online form available form the library webpage or intranet page, or by clicking here.

New library app now available!

The library app is now available for Apple and Android!

Get started by downloading Library Link from your mobile App store, then:

  • go to a computer and login in to your library account here
  • go to My Library Account, then Details
  • scroll to the bottom of the page to find your QR code
  • open the App on your mobile device and click on the Scan Setup Code button and scan your QR code
  • you will see your information automatically scanned into your device
  • enter the password you normally use to login to your library account and tap Save
  • you are now registered to use the App

 You can use the Library Link App to:

  • Search for available resources
  • View and place a renewal for your loaned items.
  • Check your alert messages
  • View library information
  • Scan ISBNs or barcodes to automatically retrieve resources from the system
  • View the library’s latest resources

Free book loans!

September 2, 2015

It is now free of charge to request a book from North West regional libraries! If you would like a book not available from the library you can request it through the Inter Library Loan service. You can also check for your book on the North West Health Libraries Online Catalogue (NWOPAC), accessible from our webpage.

All other Inter Library Loan / Document Supply charges remain unchanged. Speak with a member of staff for more details.

How to suggest an eBook

Want to suggest an eBook for the library’s collection?  Here’s how:

  • go to and login with your OpenAthens account
  • select Dawson Books or Ebook Library (EBL) from the list of resources
  • search the eBooks on both platforms
  • when you have found an eBook that you think would be useful to you and other UHSM staff or students follow the process (depending on the platform you are on) to suggest a title for purchase
  • the library team will receive your suggestion automatically
  • your suggestion will be either approved or declined but either way we will contact you and let you know
  • once approved you will be contacted and will be able to access the eBook within 24 hours

New Library training programme

Click on the Training Calendar link to see the new range of training sessions we will be offering over the forthcoming months. This new programme has been created in light of the findings of our recent training needs analysis survey.

Courses include Critical Appraisal, Using Social Media, Google and Beyond – how to safely search the Internet, Searching Cochrane Library, Searching for Management Information, and Searching Pubmed.

The library has received a large selection of new books including updated versions of the popular Oxford Handbook series including Clinical Medicine, Clinical Haematology, General Practice, Clinical Examination and Practical Skills, Oncology, Clinical Immunology and Allergy, and Medical Sciences.

We have also added to our extensive core collection of books, including the latest version of Gopee’s Mentoring and Supervision in Healthcare, the popular ABC series of books such as Palliative Care, Multimorbidity, Medically Unexplained Symptoms, Sexual Health and Transfer and Retrieval Medicine, as well as books on the MRCGP, OSCES, Emergency Triage and many others.
