Journals 2014

November 4, 2013

Thank you to everyone who responded to our recent journals survey. As a result we have cancelled a small number of low usage subscriptions to make way for what you told us you wanted and subscriptions will start January 2014. The titles will be the following:

American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology

Annals of Allergy Asthma & Immunology

Annals of Emergency Medicine

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery – American edition

Journal of Acute Medicine

Laryngoscope

Nurse Education in Practice

Pediatrics

Practising Midwife

If there are new titles that you want us to subscribe to that are not in the above list, and you don’t see them in our catalogue, we will need to find alternative funding for them.

Contact donna.schofield@uhsm.nhs.uk to discuss.

Subscriptions are reviewed each summer in preparation for the following year’s purchases. Usage statistics help inform these decisions, therefore the Library Team urges you to access subscriptions via your UHSM OpenAthens login or other Academy Library logins such as is required for Chest and European Respiratory Journal. This will give us a better idea of the journals you read most.

Contact the library for information about how to register for OpenAthens and/or passwords for Chest and ERJ.

Research Scan

July 21, 2013

The Research Scan is a free service offered by the Health Foundation, an independent charity working to improve the quality of healthcare in the UK, that provides you with a monthly email summary of the top 60 articles about improving quality in healthcare.

Every month they scan thousands of journals then select and summarise the most interesting healthcare improvement studies.

The articles are grouped into four categories: person-centred care, patient safety, value for money and approaches for improvement.

Each month the articles are also added to the searchable Research Scan archive on the Health Foundation’s website, which is also free to use.

Signing up for the Research Scan is quick, free and will save you time getting the latest evidence.

For more information and to register for the email service or to search the database, visit: www.health.org.uk/researchscan
